When (or, Love for All Seasons)

29 September 2022

Poetry | Grief & Loss | Lifespan | Attachment

Love me in the twilight
When the night is still ascending,
Love me in the sunrise
When the robin’s song is ending.

Love me in the amber
When the leaves our secrets keeping,
Love me in the greyness
When the willows bare are weeping.

Love me in the flicker
When the glow a moment traces,
Love me in the newness
When the midnight hour embraces.

Love me in the silence
When the peace begins to crumble,
Love me in the meantime
When the gentle word is humble.

Love me in the fever
When my head is sore from crying,
Love me in the waking
When the dream we share is dying.

Love me in the longing
When my hungry heart is wanting,
Love me in the memories
When the emptiness is haunting.

Love me in the distance
When the youth we knew is fading
Love me in the splendor
When the heavens close are waiting

Love me in the promise
That no force on earth can sever,
Love me now and always;
Love me, love, forever.
